The project organiser Sean FitzGibbon has begun visiting senior senior school and university students along Australia’s east coast to talk with classes about the AuXAfrica project. Sean's focus is on inspiring team-work between the African communities and Australian volunteers that he visited during the journey. From building mud-brick classrooms in a rural Kenyan village to building relationships with orphaned street-kids in a bustling South African city, their amazing stories are being shared with the youth of Australia.
Through the use of stirring images, music and recorded interviews, the presentations aim to:
Students will be made aware of the numerous volunteer opportunities available to them and the rich experiences that await them in volunteer positions. Being a volunteer is not just about working with those less fortunate in an attempt to better their lives; it is also about experiencing life through the eyes of others so that our understanding of the world and ourselves can be broadened.
Individual presentations will run for 5-15 minutes, with additional time available at the end to respond to questions. Printed material on volunteer opportunities will be available for students to take away.
Sean will travel to various areas along Australia’s east coast to give AuXAfrica presentations. The timing of visits will be dependent upon organised travel itineraries. If you are interested in having Sean visit your area then please complete the form below and a member of the AuXAfrica team will contact you soon.
Please note, we are targeting senior school students and university students. However, where time permits, Sean is also willing to present to other audiences.
If you are part of a school in eastern Australia we would be interested in visiting your class to inspire students to help build a fairer world. We are happy to visit any school free of charge. Visits to non-east coast Australian areas may be possible with some financial assistance.
Any donations to our African fund raising appeal would be greatly appreciated. Funds raised will be used directly on projects in the African communities visited. more...
